“A touch of layering infused with a hefty dose of Bananarama style, circa “Cruel Summer,” the Marc by Marc Jacobs women’s collection charmed with a relaxed attitude. Oversize shirts were tucked into rolled-up baggy pants, a full-skirted peplum dress was worked in faded floral denim and striking patchwork designs combined checks, gingham and paisley for a youthful zest. The show’s cool styling (scarves for belts and hair accessories) offered countless ways a girl can put her irreverent wardrobe together.”

“Jacobs, with his hipper than hipster reputation, sent his female models down the runway in cat-eye framed glasses, jacquard culottes and velvet dresses. There were two jumpsuits, one paired with gray motorcycle boots.

Jacobs chose bold florals, checks and polka dots for his prints.

The menswear was a little more military. The male models had officers’ hats, navy sailor suit pants and canvas bags.

There were a few glam pieces for the guys, a gold lame sweater, gold lame trench coat and pants with gold tuxedo stripes.

Jacobs put volume in his outerwear, using puffy boucle (nubbly yarn) fabric and black fur for both men’s and women’s coats.”

“Fret not, MMJ fans, this is still the collection you know and love. Neon shift dresses, olive-colored tops, and bright green and scarlet short suits held their own with a striped dress, complete with the aforementioned peplum. Athletic looks featured tees and more stripes, and even a baseball cap or two. The big thrill will no doubt be the high-top sneakers. Expect to see those everywhere next season. Standouts included a scarlet and blue cotton twill dress and the color-blocked shoes.

Despite the high heat of the location (editors were fanning themselves furiously), the collection was well received. It almost made us long for school days so we could wear a chic navy jumpsuit to homeroom. ” (fashionetc)
